Rekeying changes the internal pin configuration of your existing lock so old keys no longer work — it’s faster and less expensive. A lock change replaces the entire hardware, which is ideal when the lock is worn, damaged, or you want to upgrade to a higher-grade lock.

Locksmith Topics
When to Rekey vs. Replace Locks
If your lock is in good condition but you’re worried about who has a key, rekeying is the right call. It’s faster, cheaper, and just as secure as a new lock. Replace when hardware is worn, damaged, or you’re upgrading security grade.
What to Do When Locked Out
Stay calm, verify you’re at the right entrance, and call a licensed and insured locksmith. Avoid DIY entry attempts — they risk damaging the lock or door, which costs more to repair than a locksmith visit.
Car Key Replacement: Locksmith vs. Dealership
A mobile locksmith comes to you, typically charges less than a dealership, and can complete most key replacements on-site in under an hour. Dealers often charge 2–3x more and require a tow. Bring your ID and registration.
Smart Lock Buying Guide
For most homeowners, the Schlage Encode or Kwikset Halo are the best all-around smart deadbolts — they include built-in Wi-Fi, are ANSI Grade 1, and install without a separate hub. We install and configure both.
Eviction Lockouts: What’s Legal
In Pennsylvania, a landlord cannot change the locks on an occupied unit without a court order. A valid writ of possession from the court is required. We perform eviction lockouts only with proper legal documentation.
Exit Devices & Fire Code
Pennsylvania fire code requires approved exit devices (panic bars) on certain commercial egress doors. We install von Duprin, Corbin Russwin, and Sargent hardware to current code.
